Bill Stewart: Profile

Bill Stewart
A PMO and portfolio management thought leader, Bill Stewart has over 30 years of successful project and program management experience across a wide range of initiatives. A former Infantry Officer, Army Ranger and Aviator, Bill developed dynamic experiential based leadership training programs that are still in use by the military today. After leaving the service, he was a Program Manager for President Reagan on the Grace Commission, helping to identify and develop business processes and systems for the federal government. As an internal management consultant for Phillips Petroleum and Ernst & Young he was responsible for implementing a wide range of business solutions for Fortune 500 corporations. During the 1980’s and 90’s, Bill was instrumental in the inception and development of the program office concept and continues to lead highly successful implementations of portfolio and program management across major corporations and organizations. He regularly coaches executives, helping them move their organizations to a culture of disciplined planning and execution of strategic vision.  He is active in PMI and served for 7 years on the board of the Information Systems Specific Interest Group. He created the International Program Office Summit, a think tank for program and portfolio professionals and now in its 7th year. Bill is considered by many as the father of project management immersion training, having developed experiential based training programs that rapidly mature the leadership and project management skills of organizational leaders. This includes the Certified Project Manager (CPM) and IT CPM Boot Camp certification program, considered by many as the most effective project management and leadership program available anywhere.

An exciting motivational speaker, he is regularly asked to conduct presentations and workshops for major corporations and organizations internationally. He will be a key note speaker at the World Project Management Conference in Singapore and will also speak at the PMI Global Congress in Atlanta.  Bill’s extensive knowledge and experience in project, program and portfolio management coupled with his passion to share his knowledge and experiences, make his presentations exciting, informative and highly motivating. Interviews with Bill have appeared in such periodicals as CEO and CIO magazines, PM Networks Career Tracks and this year’s PMI Leadership issue of PM Network. He appeared on CNBC as a project management expert and will appear in July on CNBC's World Business Review with General Norman Schwarzkopf.  Bill will be publishing several books this year; “The PMO Survival Guide” “Leadership is Not a Job Title”, and the "Ranger Handbook for Project Managers".  While many professionals may be content on the theory and concepts of project management and leadership, Bill continues to focus on his life long ambition to continue to develop outstanding leaders.
