Course Description: Without question, vendors and contractors are important members of project teams. In fact, project success is quite often tied directly to the timely production of their deliverables/solutions. Yet, one of the greatest risks to any project is the introduction of vendors and contractors. Managing these important resources is critical. This course provides the tools and techniques necessary to assist students in selecting, contracting and controlling their vendors and contractors.

Subjects covered during this course include:

• Overview of contract and procurement management
• Elements of contract management
• Contract types and terms
• Contract proposal preparation
• Contract development
• Techniques for reducing contractor/vendor risks
• Tying deliverables to contracts
• Determining risks by contract type
• Deliverable sign-offs
• Developing a partnering relationship with contractors/vendors
• Contract litigation

The Project Management knowledge areas from PMI's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) areas covered will include:

• Project Procurement Management
• Project Cost Management
• Project Risk Management

This course is an elective course for the PMLG Certified Project Manager (CPM) Program. It provides excellent preparation for taking the Project Management Professional (PMP ®) examination.
