Bill Stewart
Founder & President and CEO - PMLG
A program and portfolio management thought leader, Bill Stewart has over 30 years of successful leadership experience across a wide range of initiatives. A former Infantry Officer and Army Ranger, Bill developed dynamic experiential based leadership training programs that are still in use today. In 1982 he was a program manager for President Reagan on the Grace Commission. As a management consultant for Phillips Petroleum and Ernst & Young, Bill was responsible for implementing a wide range of business solutions for Fortune 500 corporations. Bill identified the need in public and private organizations for support in the successful execution of strategic vision and was instrumental in creating the PMO and EPMO concept to address that need. Over the past 20 years he has supported the successful implementations of PMO’s and EPMO’s for such major organizations as Toyota, BellSouth, Delta Air Lines, Cendant Corporation, Southwestern Bell, Cingular Wireless, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Merck, Wyeth, ACE Insurance, Avis and many others.
He regularly coaches executives and PMO professionals on how to rapidly move to a culture of planning and execution excellence. He developed experiential based training and certification program, the CPM and ITCPM Boot Camp program. This is the only experiential project management training program available anywhere and has proven to rapidly mature both the project management and leadership skills of those attending. It has become a key element in ensuring the successful move by any organization to a culture of disciplined and consistent planning and execution. He also created the advanced certification program, the Program and Portfolio Management Certification® and the Enterprise Program Management Maturity Assessment (EPMMA™). Bill was responsible for forming the think tank, The International Program Office Summit which will conduct its 10th annual session in 2010. A member of PMI for over 20 years, he was on the Board of Directors for Information Systems Specific Interest Group for 7 years. Bill is on several Who's Who listings.
Bill is a highly sought after international speaker. His extensive knowledge and leadership experience in project, program and portfolio management coupled with his passion to share what he has learned, make his presentations exciting, informative and highly motivating. During 2009, Bill presented at the PMI Global Congress in Amsterdam, the Global Congress in Orlando, Florida and at Gartner ITXPO. Interviews with Bill have appeared in business magazines to include, CEO, CIO, PM Network. Bill has appeared several times on CNBC and other networks as an expert on leadership and project management. Most recently he appeared on “World Business Review” hosted by General Norman Schwarzkopf. Two books authored by Bill will be published at the beginning of 2010: “Achieve Execution Excellence!” and “The PMO and EPMO Survival Guide”.
