A project, program and portfolio management thought leader, Bill Stewart has over 30 years of successful leadership experience across a wide range of initiatives. A former Infantry Officer, Aviator and Army Ranger, Bill developed dynamic, realistic experiential-based leadership training programs for the military that are still in use today. After leaving the military, Bill was a program manager for President Reagan on the Grace Commission, a program to bring private sector business knowledge and efficiency to the public sector. As an internal management consultant for Phillips Petroleum, he led a wide range of projects. Bill was an architect of the PMO and EPMO concept and has supported the successful implementation of PMO’s and EPMO’s for many Fortune 100 corporations.
Bill also regularly coaches executives and PMO professionals on how to rapidly move their organizations to a culture of planning and execution excellence. In 1995, Bill created one of the first project management maturity assessments, the Enterprise Project Management Maturity Assessment (EPMMA). In 2001, Bill developed and introduced the Certified Project Manager and IT Certified Project Manager (ITCPM) experiential based leadership training and certification programs. Proven to rapidly mature both the project management and leadership skills of attendees, the CPM and ITCPM programs have become a key factor in helping corporations successfully execute strategic vision. Over 5000 leaders have successfully graduated to-date. Bill also created the experiential-based Program and Portfolio Management (PPMC) ®, an advanced leadership certification for program and portfolio management professionals. Also in 2001, Bill formed the International Program Office Summit (IPOS)™, an annual think tank of program and portfolio professionals that over the past 11 years has helped establish the body of knowledge for successful program and portfolio management. Active in PMI for over 25 years, Bill served on the Board of Directors for PMI’s Information Systems Specific Interest Group for 7 years.
Bill is a highly sought after international speaker. His extensive knowledge and leadership experience in project, program and portfolio management coupled with his passion to share what he has learned make his presentations exciting, informative and highly motivating. He presents annually at the PMI Global Congress as well as at Gartner ITxpo. He has also appeared on network news programs as an expert panelist in leadership development and was most recently interviewed by General Norman Schwarzkopf. This year he plans to complete his book “Leadership is Not a Job Title, the Guide to Achieving Strategic Execution Excellence”.
