In The Trenches With Bill Stewart

“Excellence is an art won by training and habit”. How are you developing your leaders?

“Excellence is an art won by training and habit. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”  ~Aristotle

We do not become excellent leaders through reading books or attending lecture-based leadership courses.  If that approach to training leaders worked, we would have conducted lecture and examination based training to develop our  leaders when I was an Infantry Officer.  But that approach does not work, either in the military or the private sector.   That is why over 20 years ago we introduced experiential-based project management and leadership training that completely immerses students in a realistic and challenging environment.  The improvement in leadership skills and confidence is immediate.  Reinforce that leadership discipline and it becomes a habit.   Are you developing your leaders in traditional classroom based training and certifications or are you providing the experiential based training that leads to excellence?
